Josh Doctson, WR, Washington Redskins
It was only a year ago around this time that Doctson was starting to gain some steam as a prospect. He shot up draft boards and eventually landed with Washington in the first round. Then, he missed nearly the entire 2016 season with an Achilles injury. Doctson should be healthy for the start of OTAs, but his supporting cast could look a lot different. The Redskins have franchise-tagged Kirk Cousins, meaning he’ll definitely be back barring a surprise trade. They also have their entire starting offensive line from 2016 under contract. However, starting wide receivers DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon are set to hit free agency. That could make all the difference for Doctson.
Garcon has already tweeted out curious messages about his future in Washington and Jackson is rumored to be on the fast track to signing a multi-year deal with the Buccaneers and has been linked to several other teams. It’s safe to say the Redskins won’t able to match Jackson’s asking price now that they’re allocating more than $20 million in cap space to Cousins. It won’t be easy for them to re-sign Garcon either. Doctson could emerge as the Redskins’ No. 1 outside receiver in 2017 even after missing most of 2016.
