Falcons: Jones iffy for Sunday

PFF-headlinesJulio Jones is currently tied as the No. 3 wide receiver in overall PFF grade at +14.0 and our No. 1 wide receiver since week 10 with a +11.3 grade. Over that stretch Jones has a league-leading 694 receiving yards and only two drops, an area of his game that had drawn criticism through the first portion of the season.

It looked like nothing was going to be able to stop Jones’ recent hot streak, until a hip ailment forced him out of Monday night’s game against the Packers.

If Jones is unable to suit up this week, Matt Ryan will clearly be without his most dangerous target and his favorite deep threat. Jones leads all Falcons’ receivers with 16 catches on 34 targets of passes 20 or more yards downfield. The rest of the receiving unit; Roddy White, Harry Douglas, Eric Weems and Devin Hester have combined for only 10 catches on 25 targets.

White would likely be next in line as Ryan’s target of choice, but the production drop-off is considerable.  White currently ranks 77th out of the top 111 receivers with a -3.8 overall grade and dropped passes have continued to be a problem. (10.6% Drop Rate).
