“The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd; indeed in view of the silliness of the majority of mankind, a widely spread belief is more likely to be foolish than sensible.” – Bertrand Russell
Week 1 was a short reminder in the importance of including contrarian plays (players rostered in less than five percent of DFS lineups) in all of your GPP lineups. Typically, only one to three contrarian plays per lineup is considered necessary. However, last week, FanDuel's million dollar winner started a lineup with just two players owned in over five percent of leagues.
On DraftKings, the $2 million dollar winner only had one player under five percent owned, Tyler Eifert. Eifert was a guy (alongside Jordan Reed) I mentioned in last week’s column as an attractive value play, but whiffed on assuming he would have a higher ownership percentage.
The team finishing in second place, who only brought home $1 million (wow that felt weird to write), had six out of nine positions where they went contrarian. One of these contrarian plays was Benny Cunningham, who we featured in last week’s article.
The players with the highest ownership percentage this week are projected (based on FanDuel’s Thursday slate) to be Drew Brees, Sam Bradford, Carlos Hyde, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, Tyler Eifert, and Rob Gronkowski. This week, we’ll be devaluing these players and instead plugging in some of the guys listed below.
