Earl Mitchell making a big splash on Dolphins defensive line

PFF-headlinesTruth be told it didn't seem an immediate need for Miami when they went out and signed Earl Mitchell in free agency. Sure they had lost Paul Soliai but with Jared Odrick and Randy Starks two productive players, you wonder how the team would fit all three onto the field without limiting the playing time of Cameron Wake, Olivier Vernon and Dion Jordan.

Well it's a case of so far, so good with Mitchell making a fantastic start to life as a Dolphin. Through two games he's currently our (all 22 review pending) top ranked defensive tackle, turning 80 snaps into a fantastic +7.7 grade. What's more he's been anything but one dimensional, leading his peers with a  21.2 run stop percentage score and sitting in the top 10 of our pass rushing productivity ranks for defensive tackles.

Can he keep it up? That remains to be seen. But for now Miami are sitting backs with the kind of defensive line depth most teams can only dream of.
