PFF scouting report: Travin Dural, WR, LSU

Name: Travin Dural

School: LSU

Position fit: Wide receiver

Stats to know: One of only 11 receivers to have more than 25 receptions without a single dropped pass

What he does best:

  • Former track & field standout, who has excellent game speed and can run past defenders with his straight-line speed
  • Can separate on hitches and comebacks as cornerbacks respect his speed and play off coverage against him
  • Elusive and evades defenders on short passes such as screens, which resulted in 6 broken tackles on 28 receptions
  • Demonstrated sure hands as he did not drop any of his 28 catchable targets in 2016, although lets a couple passes in to his pads
  • Knows how to get open on the scramble drill when the play breaks down
  • Finds the soft spot in zone coverage
  • Runs his routes just past of the sticks knowing where he needs to be to get the first down

Biggest concern:

  • Very raw route-runner who rounds his routes occasionally
  • Gives up on plays when he cannot separate early even if he is the targeted receiver
  • Tough evaluation due to LSU’s inconsistent passing offense
  • Occasionally seems to slow down in the middle of a route and lack effort

Bottom line: There are quite a few question marks around Dural due to his limited production in LSU’s struggling passing game. Right now he looks like a raw developmental wide receiver who could get some looks as a returner. The Breaux Bridge native will probably need to sit and learn in his first year in the NFL as his route-running is still a work-in-progress. However, if he can improve his route-running and combine that with his athletic ability and sure hands, he could become the next LSU wide receiver to stick in the NFL.
