PFF draft board: Los Angeles Rams

PFF is putting together team-specific draft boards for all 32 franchises using our draft rankings and evaluation of how each player fits in specific schemes.

Included are three ideal targets for each team with their first-, second-, and third-round picks, along with a team-specific draft board (at the bottom of this article) that includes every player in PFF’s draft rankings.

Here is the entry for the Los Angeles Rams:

Round 1 (first overall, acquired via trade with the Titans)

Jared Goff, QB, Cal

The debate will continue as to which quarterback the Rams will select right up until Roger Goodell’s announcement of the first pick. Jared Goff’s accuracy to all three-levels and ability to deal with pressure better than any QB in this draft class give him the edge, but now he will have to deal with the pressure of being the face of the franchise in LA.

Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State

While Goff has the slight edge in the battle of potential No. 1 picks, Carson Wentz actually graded higher on a per-snap basis than the Cal QB. Wentz is also the superior physical specimen out of the two quarterbacks, and could very well be the Rams’ selection and signal-caller of the future.

Round 2 (43rd and 45th overall)

Traded to the Tennessee Titans.

Round 3 (76th overall)

Traded to the Tennessee Titans.

Wentz seems to be a better fit…Fisher’s greatest success came with McNair, a big, mobile QB from a small school…some coaches might be nervous about taking a QB high from a small school but Fisher has been there. Wentz also come from a pro type offense…with Gurley and the defense he would not need to be great right away…and playing Seattle and AZ twice a year your QB better be tough…not sure Goff fits that mold.

    • Tim Edell

Goff played behind a horrendous OL at Cal he is definitely tough!!

  • Chris C

They both have their pros and cons. I personally feel like Goff is the better choice. Wentz is a small school, inexperienced QB. Goff has been playing quarterback since he was a kid, Wentz has been playing quarterback for a year. And all this talk of Wentz having a stronger arm, his passes are ugly. Sure they might have some strength behind them but they are wobbly, ugly passes. Goff throws tight spirals every time, or as receivers call it, a receiver friendly ball. Give me Goff every day and twice on Sundays.
