If only the actual fantasy season were as long as the long offseason of anticipation. Here we are in Week 8, entering the backstretch of another fantasy football season. It’s both exciting and alarming.
As the second half of the season arrives, it’s time for fantasy owners to start spending what’s left of their free agent budget. Even though there aren’t many standout options this week, spending wisely is a must for all playoff contenders and rebuilders alike.
With that in mind, here are readily-available free agents that might make good additions to your fantasy football roster for Week 8, and for the remainder of the 2015 fantasy football season.
Quarterbacks
Marcus Mariota, Titans (ESPN 38% owned; FAAB 6%) – After missing last week with a knee ailment, Mariota was dropped in over 20 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues. Fantasy owners in need of a bye week stream or playoff depth, should be looking to quickly pick up the rookie signal-caller again. Now it’s early, but Mariota is expected to suit up in Week 8 and has an excellent matchup against a Texans pass defense that has allowed the most touchdown passes in the NFL (16), and will be without top coverage corner Kareem Jackson (ankle) again. Mariota has season-long value regardless of Week 8 availability, but should he sit this week, Zach Mettenberger is worth a minimal bid.
