Consensus Rankings Analysis – Week 5

Ben RoethlisbergerQuarterbacks

You know you’re starting Ben Roethlisberger, right? Okay, good. Just making sure. In four games, the Jaguars have allowed 1,377 yards, 11 touchdowns, and picked off exactly one pass. Every QB going against them has had over 250 yards, with three of those QBs going over 320 yards, and two of those QBs going over 370 yards. Each QB also has multiple touchdowns against the Jaguars. Until that trend stops, keep starting players against them. Ben checks in at No. 8 on the week, and he’s an absolute QB1 against the Jags.

I don’t think the Patriots are an elite team. Tom Brady is in decline, their offense is putrid, and their coaches are drawing up gameplans that make zero sense. What they do have, though, is talent on the defense. One has to assume they’ll make adjustments with players like Revis, McCourty, Collins, Hightower, Chandler Jones, etc. As a result, I’m treading cautiously with Andy Dalton, as are some of our staffers (notably Mike Clay, who has him down at No. 26). I’m not sure I’d have him that far down, but he’s a middling QB2 at best on the week in my opinion, and only Scott Spratt has him in the QB1 tier at No. 11.
