Quarterback grade: Dane Evans 78.1

Evans puts on QB clinic in win

Quarterback Dane Evans was 27-of-37 for 290 yards with 5 TDs and 3 drops. Evans was 4-for-4 on passes under pressure for 39 yards and was 15-of-18 on pass attempts using play action for 173 yards. Evans used play action to throw four of his five touchdown passes. Evans was accurate and effective running Tulsa’s up-tempo quick passing game.

Tulsa’s passing game has big day

Keevan Lucas caught all 7 passes deemed catchable thrown to him for 72 yards, while Josh Atkinson caught all 12 catchable passes targeted his way for 131 yards and 1 touchdown as Tulsa used the quick passing game to great success against the Chippewas defense. Tackles Evan Plagg and Willie Wright yielded no pressures while protecting Evans in the passing game.

Tulsa’s defense dominates in win

Rush linebacker Jesse Brubaker had a sack, hit and 2 hurries on 23 pass-rush snaps, while DT Jerry Uwaezuoke had 2 pressures rushing the passer from the interior and added 2 stops in run defense. CB Reggie Robinson yielded 1 reception for 3 yards on 3 targets helping the Tulsa defense turn in an excellent performance in the win.

Central Michigan Chippewas

Quarterback grade: Cooper Rush, 53.0

Cooper Rush finds little success against Golden Hurricanes defense

Central Michigan QB Cooper Rush completed 25-of-50 pass attempts for 246 yards with 4 drops and 3 interceptions. Rush was 1-of-7 on passes under pressure for 5 yards and was sacked 4 times. Rush was 5-of-10 on passes using play action for 63 yards and completed 1 of his 9 pass attempts of 20 yards or more.

Central Michigan offense has tough day

There were not a lot of highlights coming out of the Beach Bowl for the Chippewas’ offense. Guard Shakir Carr yielded no pressure on 36 passing plays while HB Devon Spalding forced a missed tackle both rushing and passing. Central Michigan fell behind big early in the game and never rebounded.

Central Michigan defense struggles to stop Tulsa offense

Central Michigan struggled to get stops against the up-tempo Tulsa offense as the Golden Hurricanes QB Dane Evans efficiently moved the ball against the Chippewas’ defense. However, DT Jabari Dean played well with 3 stops in run defense and a sack and hurry rushing the passer. LB Malik Fountain also contributed 5 tackles and 4 stops in run defense.
