5 crazy good CFB stats to know ahead of Week 7

One of the biggest stories of Week 6 was the Washington Huskies putting up 71 points against Oregon. A week after beating Stanford by 38, the Huskies established themselves as the class of the Pac-12 and serious national championship contenders. They are a team without a weakness. They have scored 43 more points and have given up 29 less points than any other team in the conference. It’s only fitting that they have an offensive and defensive player in this week’s version of five crazy stats.

Washington QB Jake Browning has improved his passer rating by 27 points from 2015

Using PFF’s QB rating, Browning finished ranked 21st among quarterbacks in 2015. That was good for one spot behind Deshaun Watson and four spots behind Dak Prescott. Through six weeks in 2016, Browning is ranked first with a rating of 116.73 – a 27 percent improvement from 2015. He has been nearly perfect with 23 touchdowns and only two interceptions. He has improved his stats across the board including 9.99 yards per attempt (7.99 in 2015), completion percentage of 72.4 (63 percent in 2015) and yards in air percentage of 67.5 (56 percent in 2015).

Washington OLB Joe Mathis had 10 quarterback pressures against Oregon

Scoring 71 points against Oregon (notorious for running up scores in the past) had to be satisfying, but it wasn’t just the offense that dominated. Joe Mathis was in the Oregon backfield all day with seven hurries, two hits and one sack. What makes this stat really crazy is that he only rushed 22 times! He pressured the quarterback on 45 percent of his rushes. With that performance, Mathis grabbed hold of the top grade among outside linebackers at 25.7.

Missouri RB Ish Witter has allowed zero quarterback pressures on 63 pass-block snaps

The junior from Tampa has had issues running the ball with only 257 yards, but his blocking has been spot on. He has been in the game for 115 passing plays – 63 of which he was in protection. He hasn't allowed a single pressure. He has a positive protection grade in every game this season and is PFF's fourth-ranked blocking RB with a grade of 3.2.

Oklahoma State WR James Washington has zero drops on 60 targets

Washington had his issues with drops in 2015. Of the 332 eligible receivers, he ranked 293rd with a drop rate of 14.52. He had nine drops on 62 catchable passes. Through six weeks this season, Washington has caught every one of the 33 catchable passes thrown his way. Washington has a grade of 7.1 in Big 12 conference play and is PFF College’s 24th-ranked wide receiver.

Oregon State RB Ryan Nall had 189 yards after contact against Cal

The sophomore more than doubled his 2016 output in one game against Cal on Saturday. Nall ran for 256 yards on 15 carries for a ridiculous 17.1 yards per carry. Even more impressive is 189 of those yards came after contact. Only four other running backs had more than 189 total yards in Week 6. En route to those gaudy numbers, Nall forced 10 missed tackles.
