When deciding upon the appropriate location to draft a fantasy quarterback, a few unique aspects to assess in the college game need consideration. The most obvious difference is simply the number of bye weeks a team will have during the season. In the NFL, we can take the liberty of drafting a single quarterback and look to fill the bye week with an average free agent, opening a valuable roster spot for a running back or receiver.

In college, teams will have two or, sometimes, three bye weeks during the regular season. For this reason, an interchangeable backup will play a more significant role to your team than in the NFL. Of course, a larger number of quarterbacks will be available on the wire from the 128 or so FBS teams, depending on league format. Yet the consistency in the quality of options is nowhere near what is found in the NFL and many teams only pass the ball a handful of attempts per game.

The quality of the college options is the next factor for examination, as the dual-threat options dominate the position. While a few traditional quarterbacks at the top are gifted with enormous yardage volume, the addition of rushing statistics adds a level of supremacy that heightens their potential floor, and are better suited to avoid the ebb and flow in facing superior defenses.

The next set of college quarterback factors to consider when drafting will be examined in the next college fantasy football preview installment. With the first set of factors in mind, we will continue the FBS breakdown with an eye on the Big 12 quarterbacks that will impact the DFS (FanDuel and DraftKings), redraft, and devy-league formats.
