Recapping what to look for in Week 9:
We delved into some of the best and worst offensive lines in terms of pass protection. The most significant development from that topic in Week 9 was that Titans’ interim coach Mike Mularkey held true to his word about changing the offensive scheme to better fit Marcus Mariota, who was not sacked for the first time all season in his return from a knee injury and posted a top-three finish among fantasy quarterbacks for the week. Mariota had taken a league-high 22 sacks over his first five games.
I also dissected the breakout campaigns for wideouts Stefon Diggs and Tavon Austin but advised to seek other options in Week 9. As expected, both players failed to crack the top-30 fantasy WRs, but don’t forget that each has a more favorable Week 10 matchup, so they should return to starting lineups.
Lastly, recapping a few other past calls of note, back in Week 7 I cautioned not to buy into the Colin Kaepernick hype following consecutive 20-point outings but to trust in the Eagles’ running game. And in Week 6 I made the case for Eli Manning as an under-owned QB1. Entering Week 10, Manning has ranked as the QB8 on the season while Kaepernick has been relegated to clipboard duties, and the Eagles have since averaged 173 rushing yards and nearly two TDs on the ground over the last four weeks.
