Often overlooked, the Defense/Special Teams position can make or break a lineup in both DFS games and season­-long leagues. Below, we’ve evaluated some Week 3 matchups, and looked ahead at some defenses that might emerge as not only sleeper picks for your DFS lineups this week, but may become staples in week-to-week leagues as well.

When evaluating defenses, you have to look at more than how many points they scored the last week or two and who they’re playing this week. There are factors that cannot be accounted for in line stats that indicate how a defense will perform in that following week.

Some teams play the “bend don’t break” style of defense that worked so well for teams like the Super Bowl winning 2009 New Orleans Saints. They gave up a lot of points, but also forced turnovers, which account for more points than forcing punts from the opposing team.

    I imagine “well” is the answer here, but how has Rogers graded since losing Bulaga? How does he grade under pressure from elite pass rushers like Justin Houston? Is Justin Houston likely to line up over the new LT or move around the formation? The Chiefs D has looked legit this year, especially against the Broncos, but if I’m already carrying the Pats and Bengals, am I better off dropping one?
