Chargers: Help is on the way

PFF-headlinesThe Chargers have followed up a five game winning streak with a three game losing run, giving them a 5-4 record heading into the bye week. Injuries have certainly contributed to the Chargers loss of form, as their depth has been sorely tested. However some key players are hopeful that the bye will set them up for a Week 11 return.

The offense should be boosted by the return of Ryan Mathews, who has only played in two games in 2014. Mathews' finished 2013 with a +2.1 overall grade and will help ease the burden on Branden Oliver, injecting life into one of the worst rushing attacks in the league.

Outside linebacker Melvin Ingram will be eligible to return from IR. Although he's only featured in two games this season, Ingram is still fourth on the team in quarterback pressures (10). Ingram's 16.8 Pass Rushing Productivity was third-best among all edge rushers before going down with an injury.

Manti Te’o and rookie Jerry Attaochu, could also be available. With a 14.0 Combined Tackling Efficiency, Te'o ranked eighth among starting inside linebackers before injury struck. Attaochu has been hampered by a hamstring injury all year, but has still posted a +2.9 pass rush grade on just 65 snaps.

So help is on the way for the struggling Chargers.
