Bills: Sammy Watkins finds his feet

PFF-headlinesHe may only be eight games into his NFL career, but rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins is already showing signs of the potential that convinced the Buffalo Bills to select him with the fourth overall pick in the 2014 draft. Watkins leads all rookies with 590 receiving yards, and 217 yards after the catch, he is also tied for the lead with five touchdowns. His 106.2 WR Rating is second among rookies, and growing, and he has caught all six catchable Deep Passes thrown his way for 205 yards and one touchdown.

With 12 receptions for 279 yards, three touchdowns and WR Ratings of 131.5 and 143.8 in his last two games, it's clear that Watkins is flourishing with Kyle Orton under center. Though it would be too simplistic to place all the credit for Watkins improvement on the Bills change at quarterback. After all in Week 2 Watkins and E.J. Manuel connected eight times, giving Watkins 117 receiving yards, one touchdown, and a 137.3 WR Rating that was fourth-best among starting wide receivers that week. However the steadier play of Orton does mean that the ball reaches Watkins more often, which can only be a good thing for the Bills.
