Bernard and Hill in a true timeshare

Last week I reintroduced the concept of front-adjusted yards over expectation (FAYE), and explained how all rushing attempts are not equal. In 2014, rushers averaged nearly one full yard more per carry against nickel than base defensives (3-3-4 or 4-3-4), so we developed FAYE to put rushing efficiency into context.

I focused on the most and least efficient runners according to FAYE per carry (FAYE/C) last week, and will take a look at a handful of backfields this week. In addition to our efficiency numbers, we’ll also look at how often different backs are running against base formations to get a better idea of how teams are deploying their backs and who fits a workhorse profile.
