Ascension Report – Week 5

hi-res-6ca14f0894a4e78560f180022f08c837_crop_exactDuring the 2014 NFL season, I’ll be doing a weekly series on a select few players who could be in line for an increase in fantasy production that specific week. I’m going to try and stay away from the Peyton Mannings and DeMarco Murrays of the world and instead try to focus on guys who aren’t every week starters. I will choose the players based on a several factors: matchups, injuries, reports from beat writers, and recent trends.

Headed into Week 5, we have four games of statistical evidence for most of the NFL—a solid base to use when looking for trends. While there are always misses in fantasy football, this week should be the start of a movement away from boom-or-bust plays and toward guys with solid match-ups and volume potential.

Before heading into Week 5’s highlighted players, let’s take a look at last week. Week 4 saw five touchdowns, with several players producing solid stat lines.

Gary Althiser is a diehard 49ers and San Francisco Giants fan. He feels weird talking about himself in third-person, but if you want to find him, he usually spends his free time on Twitter irrationally arguing about Alex Smith, or sobbing after NFC championship games. @NFLGary
