Advanced Touches – Week 8

Advanced Touches  is the second in our weekly Advanced Series and takes aim at the running back position. These stats gleaned from the excellent work of PFF game charters will give you the insight to adroitly navigate start/sit decisions, waiver wire acquisitions, and trade proposals.

Our Week 1 article features an expanded glossary. As a quick refresher, remember that Elusive Rating is a combination of forced missed tackles and yards after contact, while Breakaway Percentage gives you a measure of 15+ yard runs. YCo is yards before contact. VYA is my contrarian measure of Vision Yards per attempt.

Advanced Touches has been promoting Doug Martin for weeks, and he had his superstar ascension against Minnesota last Thursday night. Many have made the generic comparison between Martin and Ray Rice, but my pre-draft Contrarian column focused on his elite Agility Score to suggest they could almost be separated at birth. Backs with good Agility Scores tend to excel before contact and in the receiving game, two talents which make them excellent three-down runners. Martin ran for over 100 yards in the first half of this one, but his 4.65 yards per route – many gained on his 64-yard touchdown reception – and late game goal line score left him as the week’s most important fantasy player.

Here are the rest of the Week 8 leaders.
