These past few weeks we’ve had themes for the 32 observations, but this week we’ll go back to an “anything goes” approach. There are so many statistical oddities this year that I just can’t constrain them to one theme.
So, digging into the PFF database again, I've found interesting statistical nuggets (piles and piles of them) for every team and whittled the list down to these. Here are another 32 facts to impress your friends with.
AFC EAST
Buffalo Bills: Fred Jackson has yet to drop a pass and has 34 catches; by far the most catches by a back without a drop.
Miami Dolphins: When Miami runners go between the left tackle and guard, they average 6.2 yards per run. In any other gap, they average 3.9 yards per run.
New England Patriots: Cornerback Devin McCourty has allowed 608 yards receiving this year. That's more than any other cornerback, and more than he gave up during the entire regular season last year.
New York Jets: Kick returner Joe McKnight has averaged 36 yards per return; 5 yards more than any other returner with at least 10 returns.
AFC NORTH
Baltimore Ravens: Receiver Torrey Smith has seen 25 of his 48 targets come on deep passes. That's 52.1% and easily tops in the league.
Cincinnati Bengals: Punter Kevin Huber has had 21 of his 55 punts downed within the 20-yard-line.
Cleveland Browns: Defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin has earned 24 stops, giving him a commanding lead at the position.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger has been sacked 31 times. That's very close to the number he had in his 12 regular season games last year despite some of his offensive line now playing better.
AFC SOUTH
Houston Texans: Arian Foster has improved his receiving, and is now up to 2.8 Yards Per Pass Route Run which leads the league.
Indianapolis Colts: Tight End Dallas Clark has a drop rate of 20.59; significantly higher than the 7.5 he had last year.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Running back Deji Karim is one of two backs with a Breakaway Percentage of zero, which means none of his 55 runs have gone for more than 15 yards.
Tennessee Titans: The duo of Michael Roos and David Stewart rank fifth and seventh in Pass Blocking Efficiency at 96.8 and 96.7.
AFC WEST
Denver Broncos: Of the 50 passes that Tim Tebow has thrown beyond 10 yards, he has completed only 15.
Kansas City Chiefs: Receiver Dwayne Bowe has forced 10 missed tackles, which ties him for the lead among wide receivers, and is more than he had in all of last year.
Oakland Raiders: How much should QBs fear the Raiders? A lot, they've managed a combined 65 sacks and QB hits. Scary.
San Diego Chargers: Linebacker Na’il Diggs typically just comes in for the nickel defense, but he has allowed every pass thrown his way to be caught … and 18.4 yards per.
NFC EAST
Dallas Cowboys: Quarterback Tony Romo has become the king of deep passing, with an Accuracy Percentage of 63.6% (which leads the league) and eight touchdowns (tied for the top spot).
New York Giants: Quarterback Eli Manning has a PFF QB Rating of 94.95, which is better than any quarterback not named Rodgers, and better than what his brother put up in each of the past two seasons.
Philadelphia Eagles: Jason Babin has eight penalties that have been accepted and three more declined. His total of 11 is the most for any player in the front seven.
Washington Redskins: Defensive tackle Barry Cofield has five batted passes, which puts him at the lead for tackles, and is the same amount he had in the 2008 to 2010 seasons combined.
NFC NORTH
Chicago Bears: Ranking second and third in number of times thrown at are Charles Tillman (72) and Tim Jennings (71).
Detroit Lions: Punt returner Stefan Logan has 22 fair catches on the year. That's nine more than any other player and is tied for the most anyone has had in each of the past three seasons.
Green Bay Packers: The top two individual games by any quarterback for Accuracy Percentage are Aaron Rodgers in Week 7 against the Vikings (96.3%) and in Week 10 against the Vikings with (92.9%).
Minnesota Vikings: Everson Griffen has nine special teams tackles and one assist, which has him in the lead for most total special teams tackles.
NFC SOUTH
Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan has completed only seven of his 38 passes beyond 20 yards; compared to going 15-of-37 last year.
Carolina Panthers: While Greg Olsen has been used more at tight end, Jeremy Shockey has been more effective with a Yards Per Pass Route Run of 2.39 which is second highest in the league.
New Orleans Saints: Safety Roman Harper has seven sacks; more than double any other safety.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Wide Receiver Preston Parker has seen all 40 of his targets come while he’s lined up in the slot.
NFC WEST
Arizona Cardinals: Wide Receiver Andre Roberts is at the bottom of the league in Yards Per Pass Route Run for starting receivers with just 0.73 yards per.
St Louis Rams: Safeties Quintin Mikell and Darian Stewart have both missed nine tackles this year, which ties them fourth most at the position.
San Francisco 49ers: The 49ers have four players with pass rush ratings above +10.0. Two teams have two, and the rest have just have one or none.
Seattle Seahawks: Outside of Richard Sherman and players on injured reserve, the other 15 defenders who have played at least 100 snaps have a positive run defense rating.
