Notes

  • Given how much they struggled in 2013, it’s impressive just how much of a strength the Ravens offensive line has become. Getting to grips with the scheme, Marshal Yanda bounced back from a disappointing 2013 season, to have the best season of his career this past year. The big surprise was right tackle Ricky Wagner, who finished the year as our third highest graded right tackle, surrendering just three quarterback knockdowns (hits and sacks) all year.

  • The Ravens certainly can’t be guilty of not giving Joe Flacco plenty of weapons in the passing game this offseason, replacing Torrey Smith with a similar style of player in rookie first rounder Breshad Perriman. Lightning fast, but with sometimes questionable hands, he compares very similarly to Smith heading into his first season in the league. They also added Darren Waller later in the draft, while the move to draft Maxx Williams in the second round of the draft suggests that there may be some concerns about Dennis Pitta’s future.

  • Unable to sign him to a contract extension, the Ravens opted to trade Haloti Ngata to the Detroit Lions on the first day of free agency. That move opens up a big opportunity for Timmy Jernigan, who really stood out in limited work at defensive end last season. If he can produce on a similar level as a starter, he’ll mitigate the loss of Ngata for the Ravens defense.

  • The most interesting move coming out of OTAs is that Will Hill now appears to be the team’s starting strong safety. Hill impressed for the Ravens in the second half of 2014, and moving him there allows Kendrick Lewis to start at free safety. That’s not good news for former first round draft pick Matt Elam, who has struggled in his career thus far, but particularly when playing deep. Heading into his third season, Elam faces a battle to keep his spot on the roster at this point.

Dumervil was HQ player and in the top 101 of your list but now he just a “good” player?…please explain

    • Gordon McGuinness

Should be dark green here. Just an error which will be fixed.

    • Kenn Korb

Constant debate and reevaluation most likely. Age probably factored into the change

  • RadioGaga

JImmy Smith just good? I’m not even a ravens fan and I’m telling you..up until his injury he was lockdown. He’s at least very good. Aside from that this is pretty accurate

    • Ben Suchs

Jimmy Smith si a premiere lockdown corner. His jarring hit on Michael Crabtree sealed the SB in 2013 the NFL tried to steal by shutting off the Superdome lights at XLVpremAs you said, he was top-two rated until hurt last year. If healthy the Ravens would have. foiled Deflate-Cheat last year.

      • Chris

Smith had a great rookie year in limited snaps and was great last year. However during the two years in between he was average at best.

How can you feel confident giving him anything better than Good?

        • concretejimmy

He came in for Webb when he tore his ACL against the Cowboys in 2012. I was right. I wanted Jimmy Smith on Dez Bryant. Webb was too small but the #1 CB at the time. Jimmy Smith shined the rest of the season and especially in the playoffs. He played great in 2013. He was playing great in 2014 until he stopped Bernard from scoring from the one yard line. He injured his plant foot on the tackle. Jimmy Smith is a great cover CB. What separates him from the others is his value in the run game.

      • Shawn

I don’t believe in silly conspiracy’s, but I agree Jimmy Smith is very good corner. However, the ravens were a better team in the super-bowl in 2013 just like the patriots were a better team than the ravens.

      • concretejimmy

How ironic the Ravens were playing the 49ers and I have no doubt Flacco would have broken Montana’s playoff record if the lights weren’t turned off. Nothing conspiracy about it. They didn’t turn off by accident.

    • concretejimmy

He’s a lockdown CB that loves to hit RB’s. He’s easily a top ten CB.

  • concretejimmy

Timmy Jernigan was the steal of the draft. I thought he was a top 15 pick. Mark my words, if not for some guy named JJ Watt, he will give DROY Aaron Donald a run for his money for DPOY. Both are very comparable and Donald was picked 5th?

    • Tim Edell

Man your way off buddy…Donald was the 13 the pick. If your to post at least be well informed

  • concretejimmy

Joe Flacco good? Not even high quality? Tell me that in February when he has another SB MVP. And the Ravens will be competing for SB’s for the next few years with all of the young talent on the roster. And Ozzie hasn’t even drafted in 2016 yet. LOL. These sports pundits are clowns. Here comes the circus.

  • concretejimmy

Ravens will start the season beating the stuffing out of the Broncos. BET ON IT. Ravens will be probable 7 point dogs.

    • Tim Edell

      Line is 4.5

  • concretejimmy

Hurst poor? I thought he filled in admirably for Monroe for being UDFA. Might want to put Osemele and Jernigan down as elite after this season. This Ravens team has about the most under-rated players as they ever have. I think Osemele will be the Ravens solid future LT.

  • concretejimmy

Jernigan is already my hero for poking sissy Brady in his eye. That will teach the loud-mouthed cheater to get in people’s faces.

  • concretejimmy

Might want to put Mosley down as elite. He’s already being compared to Ray Lewis. Ravens have possibly the best starting ILBs in the league.

  • concretejimmy

If Flacco is just good does that make Peyton Manning poor? I loved his one and done to a not so good Colts team in the playoffs. Broncos won’t make the playoffs this year.

  • concretejimmy

Ask guys like Dez Bryant and Antonio Brown and AJ Green if Jimmy Smith is just good. Don’t forget Crabtree.

  • concretejimmy

I’ve never seen a team or players that gets called average every year and prove the same people wrong over and over and over…………………………….

  • concretejimmy

Ravens players that will make the pro bowl or be considered but can’t make it do to playing in the SB. Kelechi Osemele, Yanda, Timmy Jernigan, CJ Mosley, Will Hill, Joe Flacco, Justin Forsett, “Juice”, Dumervil, Suggs, Jimmy Smith and maybe others.

  • concretejimmy

I think Watt should have been co-MVP with Rodgers. He’s the best player in the league. Isn’t that what MVP is? Houston deserved to win DPOY with 20 sacks. Leave it to the NFL writers to screw everything up.

  • concretejimmy

Upshaw below average? Really? Tell that to Ben and Bell. I bet they still feel it. Another Ravens player that will have a breakout year. Under-rated, etc., ……..
