Falcons: forced to reshuffle Oline (again)

PFF-headlinesThe offensive line of the Atlanta Falcons continues to add and subtract members. A quick look at the projected revamped line coming into this year paints the grim state of the current line:

LT: Sam Baker – Out for the Year (knee)

LG: Justin Blalock – Uncertain for Sunday (back)

C: Joe Hawley – Out for the Year (knee)

RG: Jon Asamoah – Healthy

RT: Jake Matthews – Injured Week 1; since moved to LT

To make matters worse, starting right tackle Lamar Holmes is also out for the year with a foot injury.

Peter Konz will fill-in at center for Hawley and Gabe Carimi will replace Holmes at right tackle. In 2013, Konz (-14.6) ranked 34th of 35 qualifying centers in overall PFF grade. Konz also ranked near the bottom of the league in Pass Blocking Efficiency among centers (96.6%), yielding 17 total pressures on 389 pass plays. Carimi has seen action at left tackle and left guard this year but hasn’t played right tackle since 2012 with the Bears, where he had an overall PFF grade of -16.8 but did excel in run blocking (+10.9).

While the line is full of question marks heading into this week, things should be better than last week as long as starting tight end Levine Toilolo isn’t forced into right tackle duty again.
