Fantasy: Thursday Night Preview
Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts, 8:20 p.m. Thursday, NFL Network
There aren’t many tough fantasy calls in this game.
You’re starting Arian Foster if you own him. Hopefully you’re not reduced to starting Reggie Wayne or Pierre Garcon.
The most interesting question concerns Donald Brown: Is he worth a flex play against Houston’s fifth-ranked rush defense?
PFF’s Gordon McGuinness notes Brown (+1.3) was having a good game vs. Tennessee before his 80-yard TD run turned it into a great one. “He finished the game averaging 10.1 yards per carry while scoring that touchdown and forcing three missed tackles–the most he’s forced since Week 16 of his rookie year in 2009. But his game was defined with 3:43 left. Breaking free of Akeem Ayers’ (+0.1) tackle in the backfield, he got to the outside via a block from Dan Orlovsky before sprinting down the sideline for the score.” Read the rest of this entry »
Fantasy: Week 9 D/ST Watch
Before the season I touted Kansas City as my sleeper D/ST. It hasn’t turned out that way, in part due to the season-ending injury to safety Eric Berry.
But it’s hard to ignore the 10 takeaways the Chiefs have produced the past two weeks. There are still some outstanding playmakers on this unit, starting with OLB Tamba Hali and shutdown corner Brandon Flowers.
In Monday night’s game vs. San Diego, Hali caused several penalties while harassing Philip Rivers. He clawed for sacks in the fourth quarter and overtime. Flowers blanketed Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd, though Flowers dropped an easy interception. Derrick Johnson burst through the line to sack Rivers.
The Chiefs also got their first fumble recovery of the season. They had failed to recover any of the first seven fumbles they caused, a pretty unlucky stat. Read the rest of this entry »

Fantasy: Week 2 – Star vs. IDP
Each week, I’ll take a look at some critical match-ups between star offensive players and top-tier IDP opponents. The analysis will help you to determine whether or not a tough match-up will have an impact on the players’ “start” status. This week, I’ll look at two different types of match-ups. The first will be a pass-rusher (Charles Johnson) going up against a quarterback (Aaron Rodgers). The second match-up pits a receiver (Larry Fitzgerald) going up against a ballhawking cornerback (DeAngelo Hall). Let’s get to it…

Fantasy: IDP – Monday Morning Cornerback
What an exciting opening week of football. There were a ton of big games and surprising performances. There were also some crippling injuries to a bunch of key players, which was one of the unfortunate expectations of the shortened offseason. So let’s take a look and see who had big games and who went down with an injury.
If you’ve read any of these articles before, you know how much I love Aqib Talib. He has a realistic chance to lead the league in interceptions, and despite being a cornerback provides enough value to be rostered as a DB in almost all IDP leagues. Talib finished with 3 solo tackles, 4 total tackles, 2 passes defended, 1 interception and a touchdown. Read the rest of this entry »

Fantasy: Week 1 – Star vs. IDP
Each week, I’ll take a look at some critical match-ups between star offensive players and top-tier IDP opponents. The analysis will help you to determine whether or not a tough match-up will have an impact on the players’ “start” status. For Week 1, I’ll be looking at three very compelling star/IDP match-ups: Cowboys star receivers Miles Austin and Dez Bryant vs. Jets’ cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie; Patriots quarterback Tom Brady vs. Dolphins outside linebacker Cameron Wake; and Titans running back Chris Johnson vs. Jaguars middle linebacker Paul Posluszny. Let’s get to it…
