Team of the Week

All-PFF Team, Week 17

In a week where starters were rested it seemed like a great opportunity for some of the lesser known players to make a name for themselves. A chance to impress and stake a claim for more playing time in the future. That certainly occurred for some, but as is often the case, the best performances were left to those guys who we’re used to seeing it from.

In that respect, Week 17 wasn’t different to any others.

We’ve got a couple of All-Pro receivers, some fearsome pass rushing Vikings, and further proof Pro Bowl voters need a ‘Wake’ up call. That’s a pun, and if you read on all will be revealed in our Week 17 Team of the Week.

All “Had a Bad Day” Team, Week 17

And so we come to the final “Had a Bad Day” Team. For these guys there’s no chance at regular season redemption. Instead they’re left to simmer and stew until the 2012 season comes around and they can show me I was wrong.

For the 2011 regular season is done with. Finished. No more. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to let people get away with mailing it in or stinking it up to close the season. It doesn’t matter if you’re on your way to the Pro Bowl, if you have a higher power in your corner, or if you’re an overmatched rookie, I’m coming for you and I’m bringing my accountability stick to tell you what’s what.

That waffle aside, here’s the Week 17, Had a Bad Day Team.

All “Had a Bad Day” Team, Week 16

It’s the part of the week that football players dread. Where they are often best advised to look away and pretend nothing is happening. Because if they so much as take a glimpse at their position and see their name there is no way around it – they sucked for the week gone by.

It happens. Whether you’re a superstar riding a hot streak or a rookie out of your element, you just enter a game and things don’t go right for you. So while you’re getting some flak for your performance know that it’s easy to turn things around.

Who knows maybe next week you flip sides and play for the Team of the Week? For now, here’s a list of guys who in Week 16 ‘Had a Bay Day’.

All-PFF Team, Week 16

I know everyone is discussing Pro Bowls and what not but that doesn’t mean we should abandon an old favorite right?

In other words, sit down, take a load off, and prepare to hear which players produced the best performances in Week 16. Consider it a Christmas gift from me to you as I do my weekly bit to give credit to those guys who just don’t receive enough of it.

That means this week I’m looking at some linemen in Ohio, some Texans who caused all sorts of problems, and a center who may have got a new contract, but just doesn’t receive any love from anyone.

That’s right, it’s the Week 16 Team of the Week.

All “Had a Bad Day” Team, Week 15

It’s Christmas and I don’t want to be mean!

Unfortunately, my contract indicates a ‘must be mean at Xmas’ clause that says I won’t be getting any egg nog, turkey, or presents until I writing a scathing piece about those NFL players who stunk things up this week.

If only I had read the small print.

So here’s a selection of players who are getting some grief from me for their troubles, and in return I’m expecting plenty of New Year’s resolutions from them not to be on this team come 2012.

There we go, seasonal references overload. Now onto Week 15′s ‘Had a Bad Day’ Team of the Week.

All-PFF Team, Week 15

Just three more weeks of the regular season means three more intros to the ‘Team of the Week’ article that people so desperately look forward to. Sure, I’ve heard the rumors (that people just go straight to the bolded names to see if their favorite players have made the list), but I’m ignoring them, for the thousands of you who see this intro as one of the greatest pieces of sports writing on the internet, and not some filler used to break up the piece.

Now that I’ve sufficiently filled enough space, I can give you some teasers about some of the players who’ve made this team. I mean it’s not every week the baddest left tackle in all of town gets some positive press, even if it is every week that a SuperBowl MVP gets the nod at the QB spot. Elsewhere we recognize some big yardage days for receivers, and big sack days for defensive ends, all in our Week 15 Team of the Week.

All “Had a Bad Day” Team, Week 14

It’s the one list no NFL player wants to be on. The one they open and scroll down to their respective positions and breathe a sigh of relief when they see their name isn’t on it.

Unless, of course, it is.

Then it’s that moment of utter despair, like the time you left a red sock in with your white wash, or the time you realized just how much money you were paying Quincy Black. Realizations that something went horribly wrong for it to get this far.

In any case, here’s a collective of NFL players who, for whatever reason, had a bad day in Week 14. Support them through this troubling time and help them avoid making this list next week. It’s your duty as a fan. Read the rest of this entry »

All-PFF Team, Week 14

In a week where PFF celebrated its’ 1,000th  game analyzed we were treated to an excellent set of NFL matchups that featured plenty of last-second drama, and, as ever, some excellent performances.

Whether it was the Giants overturning a two-score deficit with time running it out, or T.J. Yates throwing a game-winning pass, Week 14 was everything the NFL should be. So let’s thank those players who made it possible by recognizing their brilliance and offering them spots on our All-PFF Team of Week 14.

We’ve got a Super Bowl-winning QB being protected by a guy who two teams have given up on in 2011. That’s the kind of mix you’ll get when you throw together the week’s best performers … but enough intro – here’s the stars of the week gone by.

All-PFF Team, Week 13

Week 13 didn’t just feature one of the best games of the season, it featured some of the best performances of the season as well.

Granted the two I’m referring to actually came from that Packers victory over the Giants, but the point stands; this was a week where we got to see a lot of good football players playing a lot of good football. What more could you want?

So sit back and find out which players made our All-PFF Team of Week 13 as we endeavor to bring you the best performances from each and every round of games the NFL brings us. Read the rest of this entry »

All “Had a Bad Day” Team, Week 13

NFL players of a fragile disposition, look away now.

Why? Well it’s that time of the week where I get all self righteous-y about players having to take accountability for their poor performances. Heck, when I write drivel you guys let me know, so why shouldn’t the players hear about it from yours truly?

As usual, it doesn’t matter if you’re an All-Pro stud or an undrafted rookie trying to catch on, throw that out of the window because we’re operating from a level playing field. It is of course, our All “Had a Bad Day” Team.
