32 Observations
32 Teams, 32 Observations, Week 13
Sometimes the best players aren’t always the ones on the field.
It could be because a team wants to play the player that they gave a big contract to, give a high draft pick a chance, or a number of other reasons, we typically run across a large handful of players that we’d like to see more of.
Here are interesting notes about 32 of the men that have been playing well in limited roles. It would be great to see them on the field more to find out what they could do with extended time. (Their current snap totals are listed in parentheses.)
32 Teams, 32 Observations, Week 12
It was Thanksgiving less than a week ago, the time to give thanks. Just because everyone is now looking towards the holidays of December doesn’t mean that NFL teams don’t still have reason to be thankful.
Each year some players improve on their previous seasons, and teams should be happy when they see some of that happening. In this week’s 32 Teams, 32 Observations, we’ll look at some statistical bits for defensive players on each team that are enjoying an upswing in 2011.
32 Teams, 32 Observations, Week 11
This week in the 32 teams, 32 observations we’re going to do things a little differently.
A few weeks back we released our midseason All-Pro team. Here I will post a different sort of All-Pro team. This time around, I will make up a 32-man roster made up of one player from each NFL squad. On offense there are enough players to run a base and an unstoppable passing attack. On defense there’s a 4-3 front that can stop any back, and in passing situations this dime package can rotate in pass rushers while the six defensive backs will rarely allow a catch.
Here are the 32 facts you just need to know about each of those 32 players.
32 Teams, 32 Observations, Week 10
These past few weeks we’ve had themes for the 32 observations, but this week we’ll go back to an “anything goes” approach. There are so many statistical oddities this year that I just can’t constrain them to one theme.
So, digging into the PFF database again, I’ve found interesting statistical nuggets (piles and piles of them) for every team and whittled the list down to these. Here are another 32 facts to impress your friends with.
32 Teams, 32 Observations, Week 9
Another week, another chance to bring you some weird and wonderful numbers in our 32 Teams, 32 Observations weekly feature. With every team now having played at least eight games, we’ve collected ourselves absolutely oodles of data which means that in theory the stats should get even more eyebrow raising. The challenge is on.
A few weeks back I looked specifically at defensive players, and this week we will turn to the offensive side of the ball. More specifically, I’ll take a look at one player who is doing well on offense that wasn’t playing so well or didn’t see much playing time last year. I’m nice like that.
Let’s get it on – stats style.
32 Teams, 32 Observations, Week 8
It feels so long ago that we were in a lockout and not sure if we would have football at all this year.
One of the consequences of the lockout was that the free agency period basically took place over the course of two weeks. A rushed process, to put it lightly. We’re now effectively half way through the season are we’re using this week’s 32/32 for a quick check-in and a glimpse of how some of the free agents additions (and players that were traded) are doing with their new teams … with some numbers to go along with it all, of course.
32 Teams, 32 Observations, Week 7
This week on 32 teams, 32 observations, we take a look at the quarterbacks.
Football is situational, so while two quarterbacks could have the same rating, it could be for very different reasons. Today we’ll have a particular focus on which quarterbacks play well (or not) in particular situations, and use our ratings and various other statistics to back it up.
Under pressure, on deep passes, on third downs, snap-to-release time … there are a million ways to slice it. Here’s one way for each of the NFL’s 32 teams:
32 Teams, 32 Observations, Week 6
We’ve had so much talk about quarterbacks on pace to break records and how good they’ve been, and I’m tired of it. Because of that, in this week’s 32 Teams, 32 Observations, we’re going to get defensive.
.
Each of the following observations will come from the defensive side of the ball … bite-sized bits to give you some idea of who’s standing out in good ways (and bad) when we dig into the numbers.

32 Teams, 32 Observations, Week 5
We are five weeks into the season, and this week we begin a special version of 32 teams, 32 observations. This week will be all about the rookies, and catching up on how well they are doing after a month to show themselves.
In some cases impressive, in other cases not so much, but good, bad, or somewhere in between, here they are:

32 Teams, 32 Observations, Week 4
We are four weeks into the season, which leaves us with a fairly good sample to know what trends might stay this season. So far we’ve seen a number of players do exactly what we expect, some playing a lot better or worse than expected, and some rookies stepping up.
.
Here we’ll again take a quick look at some numbers that show bits of the good and bad and a few that are just interesting pieces of trivia to impress your friends with (but just your friends who like football …. other people might find it weird).
