Fantasy: Expiration Dates by Position
There is a mathematical limit to the present value of all future contributions of a fantasy player that exists even if the player has no limitation on his potential production, as is the case for Joseph Hands. That is the one extreme. The other is league-dictated restrictions on keeper lengths or contract escalations that determine the number of years you can keep a player or do so practically. For a short contract, that is a simple present value calculation.
Most dynasty owners are somewhere in the middle. You have players that have the potential to continue to provide value for many years to come, but those players will eventually yield. That creates a need for an intermediate boundary, an estimator for when players at each position will retire. Read the rest of this entry »
Fantasy: 2012 Dynasty Average Draft Position (ADP)
Updated: April 12, 2012
For diehard dynasty fantasy football owners, compiling average draft position can be a difficult task. Through the help of many of the PFF Fantasy staff members and some experienced dynasty owners, a series of dynasty mock drafts were created for this purpose – to provide reliable ADP data for a growing niche that is not readily available.
The only requirement for each owner was to draft their roster as if they were participating in an actual startup draft. These drafts will continue these throughout the summer to give you the latest information to help you dominate your dynasty league with the help of PFF Fantasy. Read the rest of this entry »
Fantasy: 2012 NFL Draft Dynasty Prospects – Tier 1
In the first edition of a 3-part series looking at the separate tiers of skill position prospects in the 2012 NFL Draft, I’ll focus on Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Trent Richardson, Justin Blackmon, Dwayne Allen, and Coby Fleener. I will start by breaking down how they project from the college game and then go into detail on which teams are most suitable, and why. Then I’ll let you know what to expect in their rookie season and beyond.
Fantasy: Dynasty Startup Draft Strategy – Choose Your Own Adventure
I have talked recently on the PFF dynasty podcast, Under The Helmet, about the limiting factors involved in using a serpentine draft to allocate dynasty rosters. The reality is that a great majority of dynasty leagues begin with a snake-style draft. Where you draft from, outside of being able to consistently accomplish trades, dictates your choice of players along the way. Here is a look at realistic options for an owner to choose from based on a win-now or youth-and-upside approach from different draft positions. Read the rest of this entry »
Fantasy: Dynasty Slants – Breakout Candidates: QB Jake Locker
The period between free agency and the NFL Draft is my favorite time of year as a dynasty owner. There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the upcoming season. Dynasty owners thrive on the uncertainty by crunching statistics and reading over team reports to find the next breakout players.
Around this time each year, I target a few players in my dynasty leagues that have breakout potential. Some of it is based on gut feelings, but mostly from watching game footage and finding players that have excelled in a limited role. Over the next few weeks, I will cover players I have targeted for my own teams. Last time I covered tight end Kyle Rudolph. Next up on my list of breakout candidates is Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker.
Fantasy: Dynasty Roundtable – March 2012
We are over a week into the first wave of free agency and all the moves have had some significant ripple effects in dynasty fantasy football leagues. I asked Chad Parsons to join me again to breakdown the major story lines in our latest dynasty roundtable discussion.
Here are the questions this month:
What player is the biggest beneficiary of Peyton Manning signing in Denver?
Fantasy: Early 2012 Dynasty ADP – Wide Receivers
Drafting a new dynasty team can be a daunting task. An owner needs to trust the commissioner to run a quality league of dedicated owners. Then an owner needs to fully understand the rules and scoring. Next, an owner needs a solid set of rankings to use during the draft. Most owners stop there in terms of draft preparation. One of the most important aspects in preparing for a dynasty draft is anticipating when each player will be selected. While every owner values players differently, having a probable range of average draft position (ADP) is vital to mining value from every selection. Read the rest of this entry »
