The Running Back Mailbag

Throughout the 2012-2013 NFL season, I will be answering some questions that come my way on Twitter in a mailbag. The mailbag will be a weekly publication once the season starts. Sometimes, Twitter questions require more than 140 characters. It’s August, so draft questions are aplenty. This edition of the mailbag features nothing but running back questions; simply because that’s all people were really asking about. Let’s take a look at some of the questions:
1) How are you feeling about TRich right now? With that roster I’m guessing you got him in 3rd? - @FFAdvisorcom
The “with that roster” part of the question is referring to a fantasy team of mine in which my first five picks were Ray Rice, Trent Larry Fitzgerald, Trent Richardson, Dez Bryant, and Peyton Manning. The answer is yes, I got Richardson in the third round in that draft.
I was a big proponent of Richardson in the second round before his surgery. A knee surgery is enough to make any normal person second guess, but I’m not too worried. It was a minor surgery and he’s expected to be back by week 1 and handle a full workload. My guess is he won’t be used on passing downs as much, especially early on, but this specific league of mine is non-PPR anyways.
I still think that Richardson finishes the season as a top-10 running back. He does play in a tough division with six games against the Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals, but he has the talent to transcend tough matchups. I’ll breath a little easier once he’s practicing, but I don’t have any serious doubts about his ability to finish the season as a strong RB2 and potential RB1 and is a great pick in the third round. 275 carries for 1,200 yards and 9 touchdowns is not out of the question.
