While the playoffs are far from settled, the majority of the NFL’s front offices are already looking toward next year. Following suit, we’re also turning one eye toward Mid-March and the opening of the NFL’s free agency period.
As that time approaches, we’ll be bringing you plenty of breakdowns, lists, and commentary to prime you for all of the action surrounding the 2012 Free Agent class, but to get started, here’s our fully-searchable Free Agent Tracker for you to refer to while dreaming up the ideal list of signees for your favorite team.

A few notes on the player ratings:
•The overall ratings only tell part of the story. For more in-depth analysis, sign up for our PFF Premium Statistics.
•All ratings and snap counts are from the 2011 regular season.
•Ratings between players of two different positions are not meant to be compared.
•Sorting players by position and ranking won’t necessarily get you the same order we’ve used in some of our articles. That’s because we’ve done more to put the numbers into context.
•Keep in mind that it is very unlikely for a player with the franchise tag or a restricted free agent to switch teams. If you’re looking for someone your team might sign, your best bet is to look at unrestricted free agents or players who have been cut.
•This list of players consists only of players who ended the season on a roster in 2011 and are now free agents, or players who have been released during the off-season. That is why you won’t find players like David Garrard or Channing Crowder on this list who have been out of the league for a year, as it would be overcrowded with players who won’t end up getting signed.

Great job guys! Just a few things that I’ve noticed:
Although Kerry Collins will be released if he doesn’t retire, he still has one year left on his contract.
Also, Jason Taylor has retired.
But other than that, GREAT JOB!

Good call of Kerry Collins, had incorrect information there but you are correct.
As for Jason Taylor, he hasn’t appeared on transaction reports as retired, which is where I’m updating things from. Players like Jon Kitna and Derrick Mason have appeared as retired in the past few days, but Taylor and Jim Kleinsasser come to mind as players who have reported they will retire, but I haven’t seen it on the transactions. Once they appear there, I will report that here.

Feature request: Ability to filter (not just sort) based on team, position, grade, etc. That way I could say (for example): show me the UFA CBs who had a positive grade last year
While I agree that would be great, I’m not sure if we can do that at this time. Until we’re able to do something like that, you can always do this:
1. Sort by grade twice(sorting once has the negative be on top, sorting again will have the highest grade on top)
2. Sort by position
3. Sort by 2012 team
Then you can scroll down, and all of the UFA CB’s with positive grades will be together, with the highest rating on top.
You could also make the position abbreviations unique, or spell them out. I can filter for QBs by typing in QB, since that’s such a rare letter combination. But DE doesn’t work so well. Adding a number after each position would solve the problem (DE1 CB2 T3 etc.)
Good call. If other people support this idea as well, I’ll make the change. Also if you think it’s a bad idea, let me know too.
You can sort by team just by typing in the abbreviation for the team name into the search box. “GB” for Green Bay “MIA” for Miami, “NYJ” for the Jets etc etc.
Based on your chart, I see Bills LT Demetrius Bell as a sleeper with upside.
Question for PFF staff: Why don’t you guys have a grade snap average/stat?
Divide the cumulative grade by total snaps.
